TRIO SSS Eligibility Criteria
Check your Eligibility
Students must meet all three of the criteria below:
- Is a citizen or national of the United States or meets the residency requirements for Federal student financial assistance.
- Is enrolled or accepted for enrollment in the next academic term at The University of North Alabama.
- Has a need for academic support, as determined by The University of North Alabama, in order to pursue successfully a postsecondary educational program. Students meeting one or more of the following conditions meet this requirement:
- ACT composite or any sub-score below 21
- SAT Verbal or Math score below 460
- High school GPA below 2.75
- UNA Math placement in MA 100 or 105
- UNA English placement in EN 099
- Did not complete high school but obtained GED
- Currently has failing grades in one or more courses
- Returning adult student (beginning college at age 23 or older)
- Feels under prepared for college-level coursework.
- Needs help in determining career or educational goals
- Needs academic support in major/required courses
- Is in danger of losing a scholarship due to academic performance

Students must also meet at least one of the following qualifications to be eligible for the TRIO SSS program:
- First-Generation college student (if you lived with both parents/guardian neither parent has a bachelor’s degree; if you lived with only one parent, that parent does not have a bachelor’s degree.)
- Documented Disability (registered with UNA’s Disability Support Services)
- Demonstrate Economic Need (based on household taxable income)
